Babes in the wood – celebration and continuation
Any good celebration should have cake and celebrating something as wonderful as the Babes in the wood programme deserved two.
Last Thursday, attendees of the Babes in the wood programme joined in a celebration and continuation meeting above the Commercial in Slaithwaite.
We took the opportunity to explain a little about the background of the project and Forest Schools in general. There then followed a six minute slide show of images from the Babes in the wood programme set to Elbows “On a day like this”
The consensus around the table was that we had forgotten just how much we had done together and how the children in our care had developed in their weekly woodland sessions.
We proposed that the project be continued with interested parties forming a constituted Community group to allow the development of Babes in the wood, potentially beyond the Colne valley and hopefully one day into its own space.
Of course all of this will take time so despite the absence of any funding a strategy was formulated to allow the programme to recommence as soon as possible.
Essentially Babes in the wood will operate on a pay to attend basis for the foreseeable future with one member of Birch Forest Schools staff running the session. Further support will be provided on a volunteer basis. The group size will be kept to twenty with participants being obliged to reserve a place beforehand. Further details will be sent out on the Babes in the wood mailing list, if you would like to be on the mailing list, please email Birch Forest Schools directly.
