About Birch

“Adopt the pace of nature, her secret is patience”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Sydney

Birch Forest Schools can facilitate work with children, young people and adults in an outdoor setting with personal development, increased self esteem and enjoying the outdoors being the underlying themes.

Birch has experience of working with groups from reception age to adult, including people with learning differences, children excluded from school or on school enrichment programmes, Sure Start, family groups and youth groups.

Details of possible programmes are outlined throughout this website though this is by no means exhaustive and we are always happy to meet with you and discuss the individual needs of your group.

You will not find a definative list of programmes as Birch believes that one size does not fit all and that experiences are dependent upon the needs and wishes of the participants.

Following a two day Forest Schools taster session delivered to a group of youth workers in Hexam:

"I had a great time and really enjoyed the day. A tutor in a day-long session has a lot of power and I think the tutor handled this really well, not imposing his personality on the group, but setting a tone of purposeful discovery
